Why Consider Phone Counseling?
One thing that has surprised us at Changing Lives in recent years is how many phone inquiries we get for counseling. We began offering this service about five years ago. Back then, we only knew that many families, mostly moms and wives, wanted specific advice about their situations. Since then, the phone counseling has grown and gone beyond our expectations. We have had hundreds of people, both men and women, use this valuable resource.
How and why it works so well.
At first, receiving professional counseling over the phone might seem unusual. Here are a few reasons why it has proven so effective. First, it’s much more discreet and convenient than scheduling an in-person meeting with a clinician and driving to their office. Second, it’s usually much less expensive than traditional in-person counseling. It’s also easy to include additional people or family members on the same call from different states or locations. These are just a few of the benefits of this option, which has become very popular. One reason this is offered on a limited basis is that clients speak exclusively with author and addiction counselor Joe Herzanek. Under normal circumstances, we do not employ or refer our inquiries to other counselors.
After three decades working in the recovery field —teaching classes, lecturing to large organizations and churches, and interacting with thousands of men and women on this topic —Joe has answers. There is a solution.

Having an active addict or alcoholic in your life or family can be very draining emotionally and financially. A session with Joe could, and often is, a very wise investment that saves both time and money in the long run.
Joe has counseled hundreds of men and women over the past several years, and many have written testimonials about the positive results of speaking with him.
Here are just some of those endorsements—what people have said:
“I ordered and read your wonderful book “Why Don’t They Just Quit?” but still had questions and doubts about what my next steps should be. Scheduling time with Joe was exactly what I needed. I feel empowered now, not hopeless as before! He cuts through the clutter and explains things clearly in a straightforward, no-nonsense way—getting straight to the point with guidance that is truly spot-on.”
“Joe had a wealth of information and ideas that we had never considered. We felt so defeated. With Joe’s insights, we adopted a different approach, and we have seen dramatic changes. Now, as a family, we will step back and live our lives.”
“My husband is an alcoholic, and after talking to Joe, I now understand that it’s okay not to give up on him and that there is hope. He walked me through different ways I can show “tough love” and “raising his bottom.” He helped me plan my next steps.”
“I wish I had been knowledgeable enough to talk to Joe the moment I suspected my significant other had an alcohol problem. It would have saved me a lot of money, time, and pain. The calm, direct way that Joe communicates with someone in crisis is very reassuring and helpful.”
“Joe’s book was the most informative I had read on addiction. Our teleconference with him was both uplifting and practical. ”
